Uzbekistan continues to mine gold despite restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic, Trend reports citing the Uzbek media.
The Central Mining Authority of Uzbekistan is the largest and leading division of Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Plant. At the moment, more than 17,500 employees work at the hydrometallurgical plants, Muruntau and Auminzo-Amantoi mines, as well as other departments.
All subdivisions of the Central Mining Department have taken necessary measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, including disinfection work in accordance with the established procedure, and employees are provided with explanations regarding hygiene.
According to international experts, gold quotations in April 2020 were only 10 percent lower than the 2011 record levels. Today, the price of gold at Comex stock exchange was $1,719.55 per ounce, the report said.
Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Complex is the largest industrial enterprise in Uzbekistan. It extracts gold, uranium and rare metals, and produces raw materials for the construction materials and machine tool industry as well as a wide range of consumer goods.
The plant accounts for 10 percent of all industrial output in Uzbekistan and for 18 percent of budget revenues. The enterprise employs a total of 58,000 people.
In terms of raw material resources, the complex ranks third among the world's gold producers.
