Iran announces number of mines to be restored in Hormozgan Province

The activity of 54 mines will be restored in the Hormozgan Province (southern Iran) in the current Iranian year (starting from March 20), the Governor of Hormozgan Province Fereydoun Hemmati said, Trend reports citing Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of Hormozgan Province.

According to Hemmati, over the past two months, activity of 4 mines has been restored.

Hemmati added that the activity of 25 mines were restored in Hormozgan Province, thanks to funds worth 400 billion rials (about $9.5 million) in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020) and 272 people were employed.

The governor said that there are currently 125 mines in Iran's Hormozgan Province.

Deputy Chairman of the Industry, Mining and Trade Organization of Iran's Hormozgan Province Ibrahim Sadini said that 59 licenses were issued on mining discoveries in the province last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020). This is an increase of 5.3 percent compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2018 to March 21, 2019).

According to Sadini, a total of 110 million tons of mining materials were discovered in 15 mines in the area of chromite, manganese, gypsum, dolomite, limestone and others.

Sadini sadi that last year, 23 mines were commissioned with 502 billion rials (about $11.9 million) in funds and 333 people were employed.

The official said that that more than 17 million tons of minerals were extracted in Hormozgan Province last Iranian year.
