Clothing production in Azerbaijan edges up

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 19

The total value of footwear, clothing, yarn and leather goods produced in Azerbaijan from January through May 2020 amounted to 174.5 million manat ($102.6 million), which is 13 percent less compared to the same period in 2019, Trend reports on June 19 referring to the country’s State Statistical Committee.

Over the five months of this year, the production of clothing increased by 13 percent, while the production of leather goods and footwear declined by 37.2 percent.

In the reporting period, the retail turnover of yarn products, clothing and footwear amounted to 2.2 billion manat (nearly $1.3 billion), having decreased by 18.2 percent for the year.

The consumers spent about 14.9 percent of their earnings on clothes and shoes. The prices for clothes remained unchanged in May 2020 compared to the previous month, while the prices for footwear and fabrics increased respectively by 0.2 percent and 0.3 percent.

For the year, the prices for these products increased by 1.7 percent, 1.6 percent and 1.7 percent for the year, respectively.
