Turkmenistan eyes to join one of World Bank’s business projects

Turkmenistan eyes to join World Bank’s Doing Business project, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan’s accession to the project was considered during online discussions on June 19, 2020.

The talks via videoconference were attended by the representatives of Turkmenistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Economy, Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and the World Bank's Office in Turkmenistan s well as other WB specialists.

The parties stressed the importance of the project, which provides objective measures of business regulations for local firms in 190 countries.

The participants also discussed the prospects for enhancing bilateral relations in the development of the country's non-state sector of the economy.

Speaking about cooperation, the participants noted the productive nature of cooperation with the World Bank in various areas, including health, statistics, transport, banking and financial sectors.

Turkmenistan has been a member of the World Bank Group since 1992. A representative office of the World Bank was opened in 1996 in Ashgabat. World Bank provides support to the country in various spheres including consulting on national wealth funds' management, preparing an Accounting and Auditing Report on the Observance of Standards and Codes, modernization of the Service for Hydrometeorology and other fields.
