Iran announces number of mines to be restored

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 27

About 25 percent of inactive mines’ activity will be restored in the country in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), said Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade of Iran Daroush Esmaeili, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Currently, there are a total of 10,500 mines in Iran, Esmaeili said adding that about 4,500 of them are inactive.

He emphasized that the ministry plans to increase mining resources by 20 percent.

"Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade intends to increase the mining extraction 25 percent and the production by 20 percent," the deputy minister added.

Iran extracted 410 million tons of mining materials in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020). At present, the volume of Iran's mining reserves is estimated at 50 billion tons.
