Uzbekistan has exported 23.6 million pairs of shoes worth more than $27.9 million since the beginning of 2020, Trend reports referring to the press service of Uzcharmsanoat Association.
The volume of exports in quantitative terms increased by 91 percent compared to the same period last year. In total, Uzbek footwear is supplied to 12 countries of the world, including Russia and Azerbaijan. This year, countries such as the US, the UAE, Kuwait, Latvia and Moldova have been added to this list.
According to the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, from January through September, the largest increase in the supply of Uzbek footwear was noted in Tajikistan - 4.5 times and Afghanistan - 4.4 times.
Due to the expansion of local production, imports of footwear to Uzbekistan in the reporting period decreased by 74 percent - by 4 million pairs.
In 1H2020, footwear was manufactured in Uzbekistan for 344.5 billion soums ($33.3 million), which is 21.7 percent more than in the same period last year. By the end of this year, it is planned to produce 111.8 million pairs of shoes, which is 30 percent more than last year.
In 2020-2022, the Uzcharmsanoat Association plans to implement 248 projects attracting $421 million in investments, of which $196.8 million are foreign investments.
