External merchandise trade down in Georgia

External Merchandise Trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $11.34 billion in 2020, 14.8 percent lower year-on-year, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

The value of export decreased by 12 percent reaching $3.34 billion, while the import decreased by 15.9 percent and amounted to $8 billion.

The trade deficit equaled $4.66 billion and its share in trade turnover constituted 41.1 percent.

External merchandise trade of Georgia amounted to $10.20 billion from January through November 2020. As reported, this is 14.6 percent decrease year-on-year. The exports equaled $3.01 billion (11.3 percent lower), while the imports stood at $7.18 billion (15.9 percent lower). The negative trade balance was $4.16 billion from January through November 2020 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 40.9 percent.

In the reporting period, the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 76.4 percent. The top partners were China ($445.9 million), Azerbaijan ($399.6 million), and Russia ($396.6 million).
