Georgian Adjara boosts tangerine exports as subsidy program continues

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 19

The processing plant already received and processed more than 10,000 tons of non-standard mandarins in Kobuleti Municipality, of Georgian Adjara, Trend reports via the Government of Adjara.

The tangerine subsidy program is still continued.

As for the standard mandarins, Georgia exported citrus of more than 35,000 tons, which 22 percent up comparing to the same period of the previous year.

As reported, export is bringing in $17.3 million which is a 16 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year.

Tangerines were exported mostly to Russia – 20,500 tons, Ukraine – 5,300 tons.

Georgian tangerines were also exported to Moldova, Turkmenistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, the US, and Germany.

"Despite the pandemic, more than 10,000 tons of non-standard tangerines are sold. Citrus export amounts to more than 35,000 tons. The subsidy program for non-standard tangerine is continued. For sure, late this month, we will enable our farmers to sell or accommodate their harvest," said the Chairman of the Government of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze.

With the support of the Government of Adjara, Coordinating Headquarters for citrus sales are operating in the region.
