The production plan for the State Committee for Water Management of Turkmenistan has been exceeded, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.
The production plan for the State Water Management Committee was exceeded by 4.5 percent, and for contract work-by 14.7 percent.
The data was given by Chairman of the State Water Management Committee Guizgeldi Baijanov at a working meeting on the development of agriculture held by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Currently, in the regions of the country, work is underway to build new and expand the capacity of existing reservoirs.
In the framework of the Programme for socio-economic development of the country for 2019-2025 targeted measures for rational use of water resources, the creation of additional water resources, prevention of soil salinity and amelioration of land.
Turkmenistan borders with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Afghanistan and uses water resources coming following the agreed quotas from four transboundary Amu Darya, Tejen, Atrek, and Murghab rivers.
In Central Asia, the main sources of water resources used for agriculture and industry, electricity production, and supplying the population with drinking water are rivers, and almost all of them are transboundary.
