Georgia sees increase in number of farming animals

The number of bovine animals reached 923,100 heads at the end of 2020 in Georgia, which is 6.2 percent more compared to 2019, Trend reports citing National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Among them, the total number of dairy cows and buffaloes amounted to 449,200 heads which is 1.7 percent more compared to the same period of the previous year.

The total number of sheep and goats decreased by 11 percent and it has consisted of 793,000 heads.

The number of pigs equaled 155,200 heads which is 0.2 percent less than at the same period of the previous year.

The number of poultry reached 9.9 million heads which is 4.7 percent more compared to the same period of the previous year.

Meanwhile, the number of bovine animals increased by 4.9 percent at the end of the 3rd quarter of 2020 in Georgia compared to the 3rd quarter of 2019 and reached 955,000 heads.

Of which, the total number of dairy cows and buffaloes increase by 0.7 percent from the same period of the previous year and equaled 453,800 heads. The total number of sheep and goats down by 9.9 percent and year-on-year amounted to 846,100 heads. The number of pigs equaled 237,200 heads which is 3 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.

The number of poultry increased by 22.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 11.5 million heads.
