Money for saffron bought from farmers in Iran paid fully

The money for saffron purchased from farmers in Iran during the 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through February 18, 2021) was paid fully, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad and Chairman of Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives of Iran, Mohammad Ali Tahmasebi said, Trend reports citing the IANA news agency.

Tahmasebi emphasized that the value of purchased saffron was 2.1 trillion rials (about $50 million).

The deputy minister added that about 18,000 kilograms of saffron were purchased from farmers in the current Iranian year. While in the last Iranian year, 72,000 kilograms of saffron were purchased from the farmers.

The director of the agricultural cooperation department in the Razavi Khorasani Province, which is the main province where saffron is grown, Iraj Nasseri said that 12.4 kilograms of saffron were purchased from farmers in the Razavi Khorasani Province for 11 months.

According to Nasseri, 1.64 trillion rials (about $39 million) was paid to farmers in the province for the purchased saffron.
