Georgia exported 2.7 tons of raw gold worth $97.5 million in 2020, Trend reports referring to the National Statistics Office (Geostat).
According to the official figures, gold exports were not significantly up amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but the revenues gained from gold sales grew by 33.9 percent and amounted to $97.5 million (2019 – $72.8 million).
Georgia sold 2.7 tons of gold in 4 countries in 2020, while 2.6 tons of gold - in three countries in 2019.
The largest amount of gold (2.6 tons) was sold in Switzerland.
TOP Countries by exports of raw or semi-processed gold:
1. Switzerland - $92.4 million;
2. Germany – $2.6 million;
3. Turkey – $1.2 million;
4. United Arab Emirates - $1.2 million.
From January through April 2021, 0.5 tons of gold worth $18.6 million was exported from Georgia to Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, Germany and Turkey.
Last year, the country imported a total of $600 worth of gold in the form of crude powder.
