Kazakhstan may restrict export of some agricultural products

Kazakhstan is planning to restrict the export of key grain crops from the country and completely ban the export of animal feed, starting from August 15, Trend reports citing Kazakh media.

The decision was made following a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy and Participation in International Economic Organizations, which was chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov.

“To approve the introduction of a quantitative restriction on the export (including to the EAEU countries) of soft wheat (class 5), barley, as well as meal and cake for a period of six months starting from August 15, 2021. The Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurship is to determine the order of distribution of quantitative restrictions by July 26, 2021," the report said.

The introduction of a ban on the export of hay, haylage, silage, oats and rye from Kazakhstan (including to the EAEU countries) was also approved from August 15 for a period of 6 months.

"The Ministry of Agriculture, together with the Ministries of Finance, Industry and Infrastructural Development, the Border Service of the National Security Committee, in accordance with the established procedure, prepare and adopt a joint regulatory legal act on the introduction of these measures," the report said.
