BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 28
Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Georgia plans to export 100 million bottles of wine by the end of 2021, Trend reports citing the country's Agriculture Ministry.
To maximize sales of Georgian wine in export markets, the government made changes to the "Preferential agricultural loan" project.
To increase the export of high-quality Georgian wine, a number of measures have been taken, in particular, grant co-financing has been started to increase marketing activities. Under the program, beneficiaries will be reimbursed for marketing expenses (excluding marketing expenses incurred in Georgia and the CIS countries) if they export more liters of wine this year than last year, and also spend more money on a marketing campaign.
According to the National Wine Agency, in eight months of 2021 Georgia exported 65 million bottles (0.75 liters) of wine to 59 countries, which is 19 more compared to the same period in 2020. Russia is the main importer of Georgian wine.
In total, 92.4 million bottles of wine were exported in 2020 to 60 countries of the world. The state aims to increase the export of the wine sector to $1 billion by 2030 as part of a 10-year plan, which, in effect, will triple the existing revenues from the sale of alcoholic beverages of grape origin.
