Iran provides loans on cultivation of sugar beet

Iran has provided a loan of 100 million rials (about $2,380) per hectare for the cultivation and harvesting of sugar beet for two years (from March 20, 2020 through March 21, 2022), Manager for ‘Sugar Beet Project’ of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, Peyman Hesadi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The manager noted that the loans were provided mainly for the purchase of machinery and equipment used in cultivation and harvesting of sugar beet.

Hesadi added that over the next few years, necessary steps will be taken to increase the area under sugar beet in Iran to 60,000 hectares. These areas will be created in such provinces as Golestan, Ilam and Khuzestan.

As reported, about 7 million tons of sugar beet are planned to be harvested in Iran this planting year. So, 5.5 million tons of sugar beet were harvested in the spring, and 1.5 million tons are to be harvested in autumn.
