BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 23. Iran intends to develop the eTIR project with Azerbaijan, which is currently being implemented between the two countries as a pilot, Director General of the International Cooperation Department of the Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Hossein Kakhaki told Trend.
According to Kakhaki, at present, the eTIR project between Iran and Azerbaijan is being implemented in the road sector, while Iran is keen to apply the project to railway transit too.
“In this regard, discussions were conducted between customs officials of the two countries within the 15th meeting of the State Commission on Cooperation in Economic, Trade and Humanitarian Spheres between Azerbaijan and Iran, held in Baku on March 11, 2022,” he added.
The director-general also pointed out that a meeting with the participation of the customs leaders of Iran and Azerbaijan is scheduled for May 10, 2022, in Iran’s Jolfa.
He added that a number of, issues will be discussed at the meeting including the eTIR project.
Kakhaki noted that as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the meetings of customs officials of the two countries were suspended. However, the regular implementation of these meetings is currently on the agenda.
Referring to the joint cooperation between the two countries, the official said that there are many customs documents between the two countries. An example of this is the memorandum of cooperation on customs issues.
According to the memorandum, the two countries are directly cooperating on various issues related to customs.
