BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 5. The volume of wheat to be harvested in Iran’s North Khorasan Province is expected to increase by 10 percent in the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), compared to last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Deputy Director of the North Khorasan Province Agriculture Department Mohammad Javad Tashakori told IRNA, Trend reports.
According to Tashakori, a total of 165,000 tons of wheat are expected to be harvested in the province this year.
“Of this, about 70,000 tons will be purchased from farmers under a guarantee by the Iranian Government Trading Corporation (GTC),” he added.
The deputy director said that this year, wheat has been planted on 47,000 hectares of dry farming land, as well as 94,000 hectares of ordinary land in the province.
Tashakori also pointed out that an average of 3.5 tons of wheat are to be harvested from each 1 hectare of ordinary land and 1 ton – from each 1 hectare of dry farming land.
There are 344,000 hectares of agricultural land in Iran's North Khorasan Province. Its 300,000 hectares are arable land, while 44,000 hectares are horticulture land.
In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.
The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current Iranian year.
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
