BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 30. Several Central Asian countries, including Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, expressed interest in participating in a project to develop the Chabahar port of the Sistan and Baluchestan Province (south-eastern Iran), Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Mehdi Safari told reporters, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.

He made the remark on the sidelines of the 2022 Tehran International Iran and Black Sea Cooperation Organization Conference on May 30, 2022.

The deputy minister said that the mentioned countries intend to transit their goods through the Chabahar port.

Safari added that so far, representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan got acquainted with the port of Chabahar to choose a suitable place for themselves.

The official also noted that discussions are currently underway between these countries and Iranian port and maritime authorities.

"At the same time, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, China and India also intend to transit their products to Central Asia, the Caucasus and Europe through Iran," he said.
