BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 6. The amount of wheat purchased from farmers in Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran) under a guarantee increased by 240 percent, from the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season in the country (March 24, 2022) to June 6, compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of the GTC’s branch in Razavi Khorasan Province Vahid Reza Feriduni said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

The director general said that more than 40,500 tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers in the province under a guarantee for the reporting period.

Feriduni added that so far, 2.15 trillion rials (about $51.2 million) have been paid to farmers for purchased wheat, while the remaining funds will be paid soon.

“A total of 200,000 tons of wheat is expected to be purchased from farmers in the province this season,” he noted.

According to Feriduni, 70 centers have been established in the province to purchase wheat from farmers under a guarantee.

In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.

The price of 1 kg of wheat was set at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
