BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 30. The amount of wheat purchased from farmers in 12 out of 31 provinces of Iran under a guarantee since the beginning of the current wheat harvesting season (started on March 24, 2022), increased by more than 100 percent compared to the same period last season, Executive Director of Iran’s Government Trading Corporation (GTC) Saeed Rad said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

"The amount of wheat purchased from farmers in Iran’s North Khorasan, South Khorasan, Razavi Khorasan and Zanjan provinces under a guarantee for this season has increased 3-5 times compared to the same period last season," the official said.

At the same time, there was more than a 100-percent increase recorded in Iran’s East Azerbaijan, Isfahan, Markazi, Mazandaran, Kurdistan, West Azerbaijan, Kirman and Gilan provinces, Rad added.

According to him, currently, the process of purchasing wheat from farmers under a guarantee continues in various provinces of Iran, including East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Ardabil and Kermanshah provinces.

The director stressed that in general, the amount of wheat purchased from farmers under a guarantee in countrywide during the current season has increased by 57 percent compared to the last season.

"So, a total of 2.5 million tons of wheat were purchased from farmers under a guaranteed over the last season," he noted.

Rad also pointed out that about 7.1 million tons of wheat worth 820 trillion rials (about $19.5 billion) have been purchased from farmers in Iran under a guarantee during current season. Of this, 82 percent, i.e. 670 trillion rials (about $16 billion dollars) has been paid to farmers.

Wheat is purchased from farmers in Iran in two forms - on basis of contracts and under a guarantee.

In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 7.3 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.

The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74), while 1 kg of rapeseed – was at 150,000 rials (about $3.57 million) for the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
