BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 18. In total, approximately 45,000 tons of apples have been exported from Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province in the northwest of the country since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 to December 18), Director of the West Azerbaijan Province Agricultural Department Akbar Karamati told ISNA, Trend reports.
“Of this, 30,000 tons were exported through the customs of the province, while 15,000 tons - through the customs of other provinces,” he said.
Karamati added that a total of 130,000 tons of apples were exported from the country within the mentioned period. Of this, 30-40 percent was exported through the customs of Iran’s West Azerbaijan Province.
The director noted that there are currently 450,000 tons of apples in the warehouses of the province.
According to him, more than 1 million tons of apples were harvested from the province’s orchards of since the beginning of the current Iranian year. In this regard, the West Azerbaijan Province ranks first in the country in apple cultivation.
