BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 5. Iran's wheat import decreased by 21 percent in value and 40 percent in volume, during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through February 19, 2023), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Trend reports referring to Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).

Overall, Iran imported 3.68 million tons of wheat worth $1.64 billion in 11 months.

Meanwhile, in the same period of last Iranian year, Iran’s wheat import amounted to 6.05 million tons worth $2.08 billion.

Iran imported wheat from the UAE, the UK, Italy, Germany, Türkiye, Singapore, Serbia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mexico, the Netherlands and Hong Kong.

One of the main reasons for the decrease in wheat import is the increase in the production of wheat in the country.

In general, Iran imported 33.6 million tons of goods worth $53.7 billion within the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through February 19, 2023). This is an increase of 15.2 percent in value, while a decrease of 8.61 percent in volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.

More than 11 million tons of wheat were cultivated in Iran in the last season.
