Total sales at Iran Mercantile Exchange top $80B in first quarter

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 26. In total, 38 million tons of goods and 1,883 passenger cars worth 3.5 quadrillion rials (about $83.4 billion) were sold at the Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME), during the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through June 21, 2023), Trend reports.

Meanwhile, 26 million tons of goods worth 2.08 quadrillion rials (about $49.5 billion) were sold at the Iran Mercantile Exchange in the same period in the last year.

In 3 months, about 32.2 million tons of goods and mentioned number of passenger cars worth 2.35 quadrillion rials (about $56 billion) were sold in IME's industrial and mining products section.

The main products sold in this section included cement, iron ore, steel, sponge iron, sink, aluminum, copper, coal coke, molybdenum concentrate, cast iron, precious metals concentrate, etc.

At the same time, 5.51 million tons of various oil and petrochemical products worth over 1.09 quadrillion rials (about $26 billion) were sold in the oil and petrochemical products section of IME for 3 months.

The main products sold in this section were vacuum bottoms, polymer materials, lube cuts, chemicals, sulfur, base oil, petroleum products, etc.

Also, 323,000 tons of various products worth 56.6 trillion rials (about $1.35 billion) were sold in the submarket section of the exchange.

Furthermore, 400 kg of saffron worth 128 billion rials (about $3.05 million) was sold in the agricultural section of the exchange.

The Iranian Mercantile Exchange (IME) operates in order to provide and set prices for many products. The price of products at the IME is determined based on supply and demand. The Exchange and Securities Organization of Iran is in favor of the wholesale sale of strategically important products by the Commodity Exchange.
