Iran increases import of goods in value and volume

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 1. Iran’s imports rose by 11.1 percent in value and 6.4 percent in volume in the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through February 19, 2024), compared to the same period last year, said Mohammad Rezvanifar, director general of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Trend reports.

Rezvanifar noted that Iran imported about 35.8 million tons of goods worth around $59.9 billion in the specified period.

The official added that Iran’s top import destinations were the UAE ($18.8 billion), China ($16.8 billion), Türkiye ($6.8 billion), Germany ($1.8 billion), and India ($1.8 billion).

“In addition, Iran imported electricity worth $60 million into the country in 11 months, shows a decrease of 48 percent in value compared to the same period last year,” he said.

Rezvanifar also pointed out that the main import items were corn feed ($3.5 billion), mobile phones ($2.6 billion) and soybean seeds ($1.8 billion).

In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.
