MEETING OF TRANSPORT MINISTERS OF AZERBAIJAN, GEORGIA AND TURKEY ON KARS-AKHALKALAKI-TBILISI-BAKU PROJECT TOOK PLACE

Meeting of Transport Ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey in the framework of the Kars-Ahalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway line construction project scheduled for 20-21 September 2005 took place on 19 September 2005 in Istanbul. The reason for this is the completion of works of the three countries’ working groups ahead of schedule, the Azerbaijan State Railway told Trend. The delegation headed by the Azerbaijan’s Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov was represented at the sitting. Relevant documents on activating the cooperation in the framework of the project were signed on the results of the meeting.

The length of the railway line is 98 km, from which 68 km fall at the Turkish territory, 30 km вЂ"at the Georgian one. By preliminary estimates 400 million USD is required for implementation of the Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway project.
