(autoinsidernews) - Work on Porsches Panamera four-door coupe is well on its way but it is still a few years before we see the production version. What we do know about the Panamera is that it will built on an all-new platform and be powered by a front-mounted engine mated to rear-wheel drive and maybe even all-wheel drive. The Panamera platform may even spawn a GT coupe model inspired by the Porsche 928 to help cover development costs, which are estimated at close to $150 million, reports Trend.

Although the GT coupe is not yet announced, the two cars would share about 60 percent of parts, including platform, engines, transmissions, and suspension parts. Model-specific tuning will ensure different characteristics for each model. The Panamera, GT coupe and even Cayenne will likely offer similar engines with normally aspirated and turbocharged V8s already in use on the Cayenne and V10 engines derived from the Carrera GT. The engines would range from 4 to 6 liters and develop between 300 and 650 hp.

The Panamera four-door coupe will feature a tall roof for easy entry and exit, but despite the more practical proportions and oversized dimensions, the Panameras styling is unmistakably Porsche, with Porsche styling cues, including round headlamps, large front air intakes similar to the 911 Turbo, sloping roofline, and a wide and sporty tailgate.

The Panamera is expected to be priced between $125,000 and $175,000.
