Azerbaijan`s Clearing Infrastructure to Expand

The National Bank of Azerbaijan (NBA) has established an expanding of infrastructure for cashless settlement by means of plastic cards in the country. To September 1, 2006, the number of ATMs (automatic teller machines) in the country reached 947, Trend reports referring to a message spread by NBA. This indicator increased by 8.5 percent (or 74 units) versus the beginning of the year. The number of ATMs in the capital is 587 (62 percent out of the total number of ATMs). The other ones have been installed in other towns and districts of the country.

In the given period, the number of POS-terminals increased as well. Their number reached 1574. In comparison with the beginning of 2006, the increase in their number made up 59.5 percent (589 units). The most part of POS-terminals (1364 units or 86.6 percent) is in Baku. The other 210 ones - in other towns and districts of the country. This increase in the number of POS-terminals is explained by the President`s order on expanding cashless settlement in the country, thereupon they began so frequently to be installed in the country`s tradenetwork.
