Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr U. Ismayilova / The Azerbaijani Government will not succeed in stopping the rise in prices for bread, the head of Azerbaijan Free Consumers Council, Eyyub Huseynov, said on 23 July.

According to Huseynov, even the introduction of a number of privileges for grain importers, which the Agriculture Ministry is introducing, will not affect the uncontrollable rise in prices. The Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry does not rule out the possibility that the proposal to introduce tax privileges for grain importers will be made in order to stabilize the prices for bread.

Huseynov noted that there are two reasons for the rise in prices for bread, namely lack of consumer policy in the Azerbaijani Government and the decision in January of the Council on Tariffs regarding the increase of prices for energy. "Rural residents stopped tilling the land as they consider it to be non-advantageous and expensive," he said.

Today, the price for a loaf of bread in Azerbaijan makes up AZN 0.3 and the price for bread in several regions of the country has recently increased by 50%.
