Azerbaijan Labour Inspector Holds Conference After Building Collapses in Baku
Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. U.Ismaylova / Fizuli Alakparov, the Azerbaijani Labour and Social Protection Minister, held a conference with the participation of officials of the Labour Inspection Department on 29 August at 14:30.
The conference was held regarding the functioning of the Labour Inspection after a sixteen-storied building collapsed in one of Baku's central streets on 28 August.
The building constructed by Mutaffakir company collapsed on 28 August at 17:00. The head of the company, Askar Aliyev, was arrested in accordance with Article 222 (violation of safety rules in construction work) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
Between January and June of this year, the Labour Inspection held a series of raids at construction sites and facilities in Baku City. The surprise inspections revealed 470 technical violations.
This year, thirteen people have died as a result of incidents at construction sites in Azerbaijan.
