Kazakhstan to Consider Possibility of New Oil Pipeline Construction in Azerbaijan – KazMunayGaz

Kazakhstan, Astana, 11 February / Trend corr K. Konirova / The Kazakh national oil and gas producing company KazMunayGaz is ready to consider a new project to construct the Baku-Black Sea oil pipeline through Azerbaijan to export large volumes of Kazakh oil, the head of the KazMunayGaz Uzakbay Karabalin said at a press conference in Astana on 11 February.

"If the volumes of the Kazakh oil intended for export are increased, we will consider the new project to construct the Baku-Black Sea oil pipeline should it be economically viable," Karabalin said.

According to the head of the company, Kazakhstan must intensify work on the Kazakhstan Caspian Pipeline System which includes the construction of an oil pipeline from Karabatan to Kurik.

"Then we intend to transport the Kazakh oil in tankers to Baku, and onwards through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan. The other portion of oil we will transport to the Batumi port at Georgia's Black Sea shore," he said.
