SOCAR ups Azerbaijani light oil export from Ceyhan almost by 2.5 times in January

In January, SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijani Republic) exported over 1.6 million tons of oil via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, compared 674,600 tons of oil in January 2008, SOCAR Marketing and Economic Operation Department said.

A total of 20.5 million tons of oil was transported via BTC in 2008, compared to 6.5 million tons in 2007. In 2006, 1,403 million tons of oil was transported via the pipeline.

The Azerbaijani light oil produced from the Azeri-Chitag-Guneshli field and a condensate from the Shah Deniz field is exported via the BTC. The pipeline's maximum carrying capacity is 1 million barrel of oil. The BTC's carrying capacity was recently increased to 1.2 million barrels per day.

The oil via the pipeline is transported through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey and delivered to the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan.

BTC Company Shareholders includes: BP (30.1 percent); AzBTC (25 percent); Chevron (8.90 percent); Statoil Hydro (8.71 percent); ТРАО (6.53 percent); Eni (5 percent); Total (5 percent); Itochu (3.40 percent); Inpex (2.50 percent); ConocoPhillips (2.50 percent) and Amerada Hess (2.36 percent).
