The Asian Development Bank plans to open a tender on May 12 to select a contractor to build new electricity transmission line in Azerbaijan as a part of the project worth $220 million approved last year, the ADB Baku Office said.
"All technical issues have been coordinated which will accelerate selection of the contractor," the ADB office said.
The project envisages construction of dual-profile electricity transmission line with capacity of 220/110 kilowatt from Mingachevir hydropower station to Absheron substation. The substation with capacity of 220/110 kilowatt will be united with transmission facility with capacity of 110 kilowatt. The ABD Board of Directors approved $160 million in loan for the project in September 2008.
The key aim of the project is to increase the capacity of energy transmission and reducing regional imbalances in economic growth by means of adequate and reliable energy supply and energy transmission capacity and improving the quality and reliability of supply.
Under the agreement, credit resources will be provided for Azerbaijan a period of 25 years with grace period of five years and an interest rate of libor +0.2 percent.
ADB has cooperated with the Azerbaijani government since 1999.
