SOCAR drills wells in underground storage facilities

SOCAR plans to drill 10 new wells on two underground storage facilities in Azerbaijan this year, a source in SOCAR said.

Azerbaijan has two underground storage facilities - Garadag and Kalmaz.

A source said that it is planned to drill six wells in Kalmaz storage facility by late 2011.

"Two of six wells have been already drilled," a source said. "Two wells in Kalmaz storage facility are planned to be drilled."

Four new wells will be drilled in Garadag underground storage facility this year.

Two wells are being drilled.

The existing wells in both gas storage facilities are under repair.

SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said that the company plans to have gas reserves to the amount of 3.5 billion cubic meters this year compared to 3 billion as of last year.

More than 1.14 billion cubic meters of gas remained in Azerbaijani gas storage facilities from last season.
