Turkey significantly increases gas imports

In January-May, the Turkish State Pipeline Company Botas imported 18.71 billion cubic meters of gas from various sources compared to over 16.8 billion cubic meters in January-May 2011, the Botas official website reported on Monday.

In January-May, the Turkish State Pipeline Company Botas imported 18.71 billion cubic meters of gas from various sources compared to over 16.8 billion cubic meters in January-May 2011, the Botas official website reported on Monday.

Turkey also imports gas from Azerbaijan, which is supplied via the South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum).

In 2011, the Turkish State Pipeline Company Botas imported more than 39.7 billion cubic meters of gas from various sources compared to about 32.5 billion cubic meters in 2010.

Some 235 million cubic meters of gas fell to Botas's export operations in January-May compared to 313 million cubic meters during the same period of 2011. Some 726 million cubic meters of gas fell to export operations in 2011 compared to 660 million cubic meters in 2010.

About 18.47 billion cubic meters of gas were sold in January-May 2012 on the Turkish domestic market compared to 17.1 billion during the same period of 2011.

About 39.4 billion cubic meters of gas were sold on the Turkish domestic market in 2011 compared to about 31.5 billion cubic meters in 2010.
