The Baku International Sea Trade Port transshipped 670,000 tons of oil in first half of 2012 compared to 900,000 during the same period last year, a source in Baku port told Trend.

The decrease in oil-loading cargo transportation from Central Asia is connected with their redirection to the oil terminal located in Sangachal since 2011.

"There was a significant decline in the handling of oil products in January-June. The volume of crude oil and petroleum products declined by about 25 percent in the first half," the source said.

In 2011 the port transhipped 1.74 million tons of oil cargo which is 13 per cent less than in 2010.

The Baku International Sea Trade Port transhipped 1.99 million tons of oil cargo in 2010 which is less by 21 per cent compared to 2009. The downward trend in the port's oil cargo transhipment from Central Asia is due to redirecting part of the volume to Sangachal oil terminal.

In 2009, the Baku Port transhipped 2.5 million tons of oil cargo which is 10 per cent less than in 2008. In total, in 2009 the port transhipped 5.1 million tons of cargo.
