Georgia increases imports of Azerbaijani gas

Georgia imported some 1.07 million metric tons of natural gas in oil equivalent, worth $221.77 million, from Azerbaijan from January-September 2015, according to a report issued by the Georgian National Statistics Service.

Annually, Georgia's natural gas imports from Azerbaijan increased in value by 11.5 percent. In terms of quantity, the imported supply increased by 109,320 metric tons of oil equivalent, or by 11.4 percent.

As a comparison, Georgia imported some 958,320 metric tons of gas in oil equivalent, worth $198.89 million, from Azerbaijan from January-September 2014.

The share of gas in Georgia's total imports from Azerbaijan over the period reached 56.6 percent.

Azerbaijan is the main supplier of this type of fuel to Georgia, with a specific weight of 76 percent of the country's total imports in this category. Georgia imported natural gas worth $291.67 million from Azerbaijan from January-September 2015.

The remaining gas supply accounted for delivery to Russia and other buyers.

Georgia imported gas worth $391.57 million from Azerbaijan from January-September 2015, which was 13.66 percent less than in the same period in 2014.

Azerbaijan exports gas to Georgia via a pipeline linking the two countries in the Gazakh district of Azerbaijan. The quantity of gas delivered through this pipeline exceeds 2.5 billion cubic meters per year.
