BP hopes that a strategy for the development of renewable energy sources will be worked out in Azerbaijan over the next six months, BP Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey Gary Jones said in Baku Nov. 15 while answering the questions of the Baku Higher School of Oil’s students.
Jones said that there are great opportunities for the development of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan.
At present, around 9 percent of all electricity generated in the country account for alternative energy in Azerbaijan. By 2020, this figure is planned to be brought up to 20 percent of all electricity generated in the country.
Currently, the capacity of Azerbaijan’s energy system is around 12,000 MVA. According to the experts, the potential of renewable energy sources exceeds 25,300 MVA in the country. Most of the country's potential in this sphere accounts for solar energy.
