Uzbekistan and Afghanistan are planning to sign an agreement on the construction of a power transmission line in early December.
The document is expected to be signed during the visit of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to Uzbekistan scheduled for Dec.4.
According to Tolonews, the power line will be built from Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan to Baghlan province via Puli-Khumri.
The Surkhan-Pul-e-Khumri power transmission project between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan was agreed upon by representatives of the two countries on the sidelines of the Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA) in Turkmenistan last week.
Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) reported that this power line will transmit up to 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan and both countries will start the construction phase soon.
Previously, President Ashraf Ghani said that he will sign 14 agreements with Uzbekistan during an upcoming visit to that country. The Surkhan-Pul-e-Khumri power transmission project will be one of the agreements signed.
Afghanistan consumes about 1,300 megawatts of electricity yearly, most of which comes from Uzbekistan, Iran, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
Last year Uzbekistan produced about 59 billion kW/h of electric power, which is 4 percent more than in the previous year. Uzbek power stations released 7.5 million Gcal of thermal energy. To date, the length of electric networks of JSC "Uzbekenergo" exceeds 250,000 kilometers.
