The United States strongly supports the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) project from the very beginning of its implementation, realizing the key role of this corridor in diversifying the energy supply routes to Europe.
This was announced by the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Energy Resources Sandra Oudkirk, who addressed the official opening ceremony of the first phase of the Southern Gas Corridor in Baku May 29.
She congratulated President Ilham Aliyev and representatives of all countries and companies that worked hard on the Southern Gas Corridor.
Oudkirk further stressed that the SGC project provides new opportunities for more extensive economic integration of the Caspian countries.
She reminded that US President Donald Trump has repeatedly voiced his support for the project.
In his recent letter to the Azerbaijani President in connection with the centenary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, President Trump stressed that the Southern Gas Corridor is an incredible achievement, and one that will provide needed energy security to Europe, she said.
The US plans to continue cooperation with all participants of the Southern Gas Corridor, Oudkirk said.
