Two combined-cycle units (CC) with a total capacity of 900 megawatts are under construction at the Turakurgan thermal power plant in Namangan region of Uzbekistan, the Uzbekenergo press service reported.

The construction is carried out with the aim of developing generating capacities, introducing modern energy-saving technologies, providing electricity to consumers in the Fergana Valley.

As a result of commissioning of CC units, Uzbekistan’s annual electricity production will increase by 7,432 million kilowatt-hours, while gas consumption will decrease by 480 million cubic meters per year.

The project envisages the turnkey construction of a thermal power plant with a capacity of 900 megawatts and of the entire range of infrastructure, buildings and communications, switchgear and a transmission line of 220 kilovolts.

The cost of the turnkey contract is $749 million. The general contractor of the project is Japanese Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd.

The guaranteed power of the power plant will be 1,008.2 megawatts, the efficiency – 57.5 percent, the specific fuel consumption – 214.7 grams of standard fuel for the production of one kilowatt-hour of electricity.
