Iran may generate $4-5 billion from gas and electricity sales to Iraq during the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), Hamid Hosseini, Secretary General of Iran-Iraq joint Chamber of Commerce, told Fars News Agency, Trend reports.

Hosseini noted that due to the problems Iran currently has with financial transactions, Iran can purchase products with the amount of money earned from the gas and electricity exports to Iraq, via barter operations.

He added that the Iraqi side should give its agreement for this, and that the staff of the Central Bank of Iran will be dispatched to Iraq to address this issue.

Last Iranian year (March 21, 2018 - March 20, 2019), Iran exported $8.96 billion worth of products to Iraq and imported $59 million worth of products from Iraq.
