By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

The US Westport Trading Europe Limited (WTL) has begun to construct a complex of delayed coking unit and tar deasphalting unit at the oil refinery in Turkmenbashi city, Director of the local branch of WTL Allaberdy Ilyasov said in an interview.

The complex will be designed taking into account the possibility of installation of the future unit for the production of needle coke, which is in demand in the industry, Trend reports on Oct. 3 referring to Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

Needle coke is a highly structured carbon product with a low content of metals and sulfur. These are expensive products obtained through oil refining and used for the production of graphite electrodes. Graphite, its derivatives are actively used in the nuclear, metallurgical, chemical and space industries.

WTL has been operating in Turkmenistan for over twenty years.

The L-Z5-11 / 1000 units were modernized at the local oil refineries, the report said.

Furthermore, a technological unit for the production of road bitumen, which processes 118,000 tons of fuel oil per year, out of which 37,200 tons of road bitumen are produced annually, was put into operation. A new generation gasoline production unit has been recently commissioned.

WTL specialists completed the work worth more than $500 million at the oil refinery.
