BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 29

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Gas consumption in Iran at the beginning of the 10th month (began Dec. 21, 2019) increased by 160 million cubic meters per day, National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Dispatching Director Mehdi Jamshidi Dana said, Trend reports referring to the company’s website.

Jamshidi Dana noted that gas consumption in Iran has increased to 530 million cubic meters from 370 million cubic meters daily.

The director added that gas consumption grows by 3-4 percent annually if the growth in the number of new subscribers is considered.

Another reason for the increase in gas consumption is related to cold weather, Jamshidi Dana said.

Iran produces 8.8 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LPG) per year. Iran’s petrochemical plants annually produce 3.4 million tons of LPG, refineries and the Persian Gulf Star Refinery produce 2.2 million tons of LPG, and gas field complexes produce 3.2 million tons of LPG. Some 65 percent of the produced gas is exported, 23 percent is used for household needs, 3 percent for industrial needs, 2 percent is used in trade and 7 percent account for gas reserves and losses.
