BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 27

By Tamilla Mammadova - Trend:

Despite a decrease in fuel demand, increase in imports of petroleum products was recorded in Georgia in March 2020, said Head of the Union of Petroleum Importers of Georgia Vano Mtvralashvili, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

“Under strict quarantine, an increase in imports was influenced by a decrease in the international price of petroleum products, as companies created large reserves. This means that in the coming period, imports will decrease significantly,” said Mtvralashvili.

According to him, the sale of products practically does not occur.

“In April, we had a two-week quarantine, and during this period, there was no demand for fuel. In April, imports of petroleum products decreased significantly. The indicators for April will be published in May,” Mtvralashvili said.

As he noted, at this stage, there is an excess in fuel reserves in the country

In the first quarter of 2020, imports of gasoline and diesel fuel to Georgia amounted to 244,400 tons, which is 11,800 tons or 5.1 percent more than the same period last year.

In March 2020, import of A-91 brand gasoline amounted to 28,800 tons, or 63.4 percent of total import, import of A-95 brand - 15,400 tons, or 33.9 percent, import of A-98 Super brand - 1,200 tons, or 2.6 percent.

In the reporting month, the largest volume of imports of gasoline and diesel fuel to Georgia was carried out from Russia in the amount of 19,000 tons, which is 22.5 percent of total imports.

Some 16,800 tons (19.9 percent) of gasoline and fuel were imported to Georgia from Turkmenistan; 16,300 tons (19.3 percent) - from Romania; 9,700 tons (11.5 percent) - from Azerbaijan; 7,800 tons (9.2 percent) - from Kazakhstan; 7,200 tons (8.5 percent) - from Bulgaria; 5,200 tons (6.2 percent) - from Greece; 1,500 tons (1.8 percent) - from the UAE; and 900 tons (1.1 percent) - from Turkey.
