Gaseous solutions are needed for re-launching the EU industry, securing jobs for European citizens and maintaining industrial leadership for European businesses, while delivering on the carbon neutrality goal, Eurogas told Trend.
Eurogas is an association representing the European gas wholesale, retail and distribution sectors in relation to relevant EU institutions.
Eurogas said that keeping business as usual is not possible in the post-COVID-19 world.
“It is time to shape the new normal, by accelerating the development and financing of clean technologies – including for the biogas, biomethane and hydrogen production,” the association believes.
A big topic on the EU agenda and gas industry these days is the role of hydrogen in achieving decarbonisation, according to Eurogas.
“It is clear that a multi-energy carrier approach to carbon neutrality is the most cost effective. Ramping up hydrogen is a great way to use existing infrastructure and decarbonise heating in an affordable and non-intrusive way for citizens. In the long run we see that hydrogen from renewable electricity will dominate the hydrogen market, but in the short term the most affordable and cost effective way to deliver large volumes of hydrogen will be the reforming of natural gas with the application of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS),” said the association.
