Gas transportation in Iran expands

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 19

The gas transportation in Iran increased by 12 percent during the first 5 months of the current Iranian year (March 20-August 21, 2020), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Dispatching Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) and Executive Director of Iranian Gas Transmission Company, Mehdi Jamshidi Dana said, Trend reports citing the Iranian Gas Transmission Company’s official website.

The director emphasized that during this period, 110 billion cubic meters of gas was transported in the country.

"In addition, Iran's sweet gas transportation capacity reached about 816 million cubic meters per day in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020)," he added.

Jamshidi Dana noted that 50 million cubic meters of gas per day will be added to the transportation potential with the commissioning of the 9th gas transportation pipeline in Iran in the current Iranian year.

According to him, thus, Iran will be able to easily transport about 850-870 million cubic meters of gas per day.

Iran produced 267 billion cubic meters of gas in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019, to March 20, 2020).

About 112 billion cubic meters of it was consumed in housing, trade and catering facilities, and the industrial sector. The gas supplied to the industrial sector increased by 7 percent to 42.5 billion cubic meters. Also, 60.6 billion cubic meters of gas were delivered to thermal power plants in the last Iranian year. In addition, Iran exported 17.5 billion cubic meters of gas.

At present, Iran's refineries process about 703 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.
