Turkmenistan, Belgium express interest in expanding partnership in field of energy

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 18

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan and Belgium expressed interest in expanding partnership in the field of energy, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.

The sides also discussed the current state and priority areas of cooperation in the political, trade, economic, and humanitarian fields.

It was agreed to continue an active dialogue aimed at developing friendly Turkmen-Belgian relations.

The parties also discussed the development of the legal framework of bilateral relations.

The representatives of the two countries exchanged views on the possibilities of bringing cooperation to a qualitatively new level through the organization of systematic consultations between the relevant structures of Turkmenistan and Belgium.

Thus, the discussions were held during the inter-ministerial consultation in the format of a videoconference between Turkmenistan and the Kingdom of Belgium on December 17, 2020.

As earlier Ambassador of Kingdom of Belgium to Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkmenistan, Bert Schoofs told Trend, With some Belgian companies active in the energy sector (oil, gas, renewables) in Georgia and Azerbaijan, further projects linking Turkmenistan with the South-Caucasus could be of course of high interest as well for Belgium.

In terms of the overall cooperation, Schoofs said that Turkmenistan is for Belgium a rather limited (in volume) but reliable trade partner.

Although, Belgium mainly imports textile products (75 percent) and exports machinery (50 percent) and chemical material (25 percent), said Schoofs.
