Iran to build greenhouses for cultivation of various crops

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 3

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Iran is planning to build greenhouses with an area of 3,050 hectares for the cultivation of various crops in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), an official of Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Dariush Salimpour said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to him, due to the favorable climate, infrastructure and necessary conditions for the export of goods, these greenhouses will be built mainly in Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan, South Kerman, Bushehr, Fars, Isfahan, Razavi Khorasan, Tehran, East Azerbaijan and Ardabil provinces.

In this regard, the National Development Fund of Iran is expected to provide low-interest loans for the construction of greenhouses, Salimpour added.

The official noted that 30 trillion rials (about $714 million) worth of loans were issued for the construction of greenhouses over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021). However, 45 percent of greenhouses were built at the expense of investors' own funds.

Salimpour said that given the recent shortage of electricity in Iran, the supply of electricity for greenhouses is one of the most important issues. According to the greenhouse development plan, it is planned to install generators for electricity generation in large greenhouses.

“With the establishment of Combined cooling, heat & power (CCHP) units in some large-scale greenhouses in the country, they will be able to sell electricity to the Iranian electricity network in addition to providing themselves with electricity,” he noted.
