The development of renewable energy sources is among the priorities of the Kazakh Ministry of Energy, Kazakh Minister of Energy Nurlan Nogayev said, Trend reports.
The government has recently taken significant steps to improve the investment climate in the sector of renewable energy sources, taking into account the global practices, as well as by actively pursuing the state policy aimed at adopting systemic measures for the development of renewable energy sources.
“Currently, there are 123 renewable energy facilities in the country with a capacity of 1,898 MW,” the minister said. “The total number of renewable energy facilities will reach about 182, with a capacity of 4,400 MW by 2025, which will ensure the fulfillment of the planned target indicator of a six-percent-share of renewable energy sources.”
“The investments worth about 1 trillion tenge ($2.3 billion) will be attracted, six billion kWh of green energy will be additionally generated, 20,000 temporary and 1,000 permanent jobs will be created as part of the implementation of these projects,” the minister added.
To achieve the goal of doubling the share of renewable energy sources in comparison with 2020, the ministry will carry out the following work:
- holding annual auctions for choosing renewable energy projects;
- introduction of technical requirements for the participants of the renewable energy market; execution of the hydropower plant development plan;
- work on big projects (1-2 GW);
- improvement of the mechanism of small renewable energy sources among the population and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
