BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 8
Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Measures to stabilize fuel prices are being considered in Georgia, Trend reports via the Georgian media.
As reported, the country is currently experiencing a shortage of premium fuel.
Romania was the main supplier of premium fuel to Georgia, but supplies were practically stopped in August, which created a shortage of the product on the market. The problem is gradually being solved in cooperation with other countries - Italy, Bulgaria and Greece.
The shortage did not lead to further increases in premium fuel prices, however, gasoline and diesel prices are currently at record highs.
“Prices are at historic highs, they are significantly higher than before the pandemic. Even when the inflation rate is double-digit, I think that the only way to stabilize prices is to introduce a floating excise tax so that the price of oil products does not exceed the critical level,” said Vano Mtvralashvili, chairman of the Union of Petroleum Product Importers.
